Facelift Surgery

Deteriorations such as wrinkles and sagging may occur on the face depending on aging, environmental factors and other factors. These defects are easily eliminated with facial aesthetics.

Facial aesthetics is a procedure that can be applied with various methods and is frequently preferred among aesthetic operations. Generally, neck lift surgery is performed together with facelift surgery. The operations to be performed are determined by preoperative evaluation.

Who is a good candidate for facelift surgery?

Patients who have sagging face and neck skin but whose skin has not lost its elasticity are suitable for the operation. Generally, men or women over the age of 45 prefer having facelift surgery. However, facelift surgery can be performed fully or partially at earlier ages due to structural and genetic factors. Combined surgical procedures can be applied to make the face more beautiful and younger during facelift surgery. These include neck lift and blepharoplasty (eyelid aesthetics), forehead reduction and brow lift surgeries. For fine creases or wrinkles, injection of dermal fillers or peeling can be applied.

Preoperative Evaluation

Before facelift surgery, the surgeon determines the facial defects with a physical examination. If there is a different aesthetic application needed, the surgeon informs you about it. You must stop smoking at least 10 days before the surgery. Tests are done to determine whether you have a health problem that prevents the surgery. Then the surgical process is planned.

Surgical Procedure

The operation can be performed under general anesthesia as well as intravenous sedation and local anesthesia. It may take 3-10 hours depending on the technique and the procedure. It is usually recommended fort he patient to stay a day in the hospital. Additional operations (nose, eyelids, etc.) can be performed in the same session. Facelift surgery is not a scarless procedure. However, these scars are not visible as they are hidden. The scars are hidden in the scalp in the temporal region, in front of and behind the ear.

Recovery Process

The first week after surgery is usually goes smoothly. There may be swelling, bruising and tightness on the face. Since the facial nerves may be mildly affected by anesthesia during the surgery, there may be mild asymmetries on the face. These are gone in 3-5 days. There will be a head bandage leaving the eyes, nose and mouth open and cold pads are applied to the cheeks. In order to prevent the congestion, silicone pipes called drains can be placed. Drains are removed within 2 days. The bandage is completely removed after 2-3 days. The patient can wash his/her hair. The stitches are removed after 5-7 days if they are not dissolvable.

Getting back to normal life

From the second day after the operation, the patient can stand up and do his/her daily activities. After a week the patient can return to work and wear make-up when the swelling lasts. It is recommended to avoid heavy exercises and excessive sunlight for two months and to protect the face from external factors.

Facelift can be expected to last 10 years.
